Racing driver Sergei Kariakin becomes the first Ambassador of the 2023 FISU World University Games

This was revealed at the 38th "May walk". The event has been held in Ekaterinburg annually since 1984 and gathers thousands of participants from the entire region. The upcoming Games were one of the main themes of the event.

Decorated Ural racing driver and winner of the 2017 Dakar Rally was revealed as the Ambassador and received a symbolic certificate during the opening ceremony of the walk.

It is a great honor to become the first Ambassador of the FISU World University Games. It is a grand event, which Ekaterinburg will host efficiently and with pride. Experience in holding some of the largest sporting tournaments will help us in that. I am certain that nothing will get in the way of showing off our wonderful city to the world, - said Sergei Kariakin.

Deputy Head of the Executive Directorate Oleg Kolesnikov was also present at the opening ceremony.

I would like to thank the organizers of the "May walk" on behalf of the Directorate for allowing us to become a part of this occasion. This event and its tradition once again prove that Ekaterinburg was the right choice as the host of the Games. I extend my thanks to the city and region administration for their active part in organizing such events, - said Oleg Kolesnikov in his opening speech.

Organizers of the "May walk" have dedicated the upcoming Games a separate route. Its length is a "symbolic" 23 kilometers. This course was one the most interesting and demanded among the participants. Those who have chosen this route had an opportunity to pass the tourist GTO (Ready for Labor and Defense) standards, take part in many exciting activities along the way, and, most importantly, enjoy the unforgettable sight of Ekaterinburg in Spring.

Mascots of the Games could be found at the starting point and the finishing line. Yaggi, Heaty, and Cedry were not only taking pictures with everyone but also lead a warm-up before the start of the walk. Thematic World University Games photo zone allowed to capture the most vivid emotions of the participants crossing the finish line.

The youngest and the oldest participants of the walk received gifts from the Directorate.
