The 2023 FISU World University Games at the "May walk"

The 38th annual "May walk" will be held in Ekaterinburg on May 16. This event was first organized by the Ural State Technical University staff and students on May 20, 1984. Traditionally the walk is held on the third Sunday of May and is open to everyone. This year approximately 8000 people are expected to participate in the event. The walk starts at the Ural State Pedagogical University (Kosmonavtov avenue, 26) and finishes at the main building of the Ural State University (Mira street, 19).

Participants can choose one of four routes, which are:
  • "El'mash-Shartash" (17 km);
  • "The 2023 FISU World University Games" (23 km);
  • "Russian Geographical Society" (37,5 km). This route is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Sverdlovsk branch of the Russian Geographical Society;
  •  "Classic" (50 km).

"The 2023 FISU World University Games" route runs along  Kosmonavtov avenue, Krasnoflottsev street, through the grounds of the Kalininets sports complex, Kalinowski forest park, and an ostrich farm. Following forest roads and trails, partially using the highway, the route emerges at the Eastern bank of lake Shartash. Participants will arrive at the finish line passing by the Stone Tents, Vysotskogo and Malysheva streets.

Founding father of the walk Victor Grohovsky, Rector of the Ural State Pedagogical University Svetlana Miniurova, and Head of the Executive Directorate Alexander Chernov will be among the speakers at the opening ceremony that will take place at the starting zone at 9-00. The identity of the first 2023 Games Ambassador will be revealed at the ceremony.

Mascots of the Games will be attending the event. They will join participants in their warm-ups at the starting zone and will greet them at the finish line. A special photo zone will be set up to take pictures with the mascots.
