The world business and sports summit “SportAccord” has been held in different countries since 2003 and represents a platform for governing bodies of international associations, sports federations, and functionaries to meet. It will be held in Ekaterinburg between 15 and 20 of May 2022. The meeting was dedicated to the presentation of the upcoming summit.
Malcolm Hardman, Business Development Manager at “SportAccord”, opened the meeting:
“SportAccord” provides opportunities for developing sports and sports tourism in your countries. We hope to see you all again next year – said Hardman.
Leonid Rapoport, Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of the Sverdlovsk Region, addressed the guests with a welcoming word. Head of Ekaterinburg Alexey Orlov spoke about the business program of the upcoming summit.
Deputy General Directorate Oleg Kolesnikov spoke on behalf of the Games Directorate:
In less than 2 years, Ekaterinburg will host a celebration of student sports – the 2023 FISU World University Games. Athletes from over 170 countries will arrive at Ural’s capital to not only compete in 18 sports, but to witness the beautiful mountains of Ural, the country’s achievements, and see how the bright representatives of our country, Ekaterinburg and the Sverdlovsk Region, live today.
Oleg Kolesnikov gave a detailed account of the innovations at the upcoming Games in his speech. Special attention was given to the planned Flame Relay:
In Turin, the site of the first Universiade in 1959, not one, but five, torches will be lit at the same time. This reflects the concept of “Ekaterinburg as the meeting place of five continents”. It’s no secret that Europe and Asia meet on this land. To make this meeting even grander, five torches will scatter to five continents where the Flame Relay will be held simultaneously. They will be reunited again during the Opening Ceremony of the Games. We will present the design of the torch at a later date. It is innovative and will become another proof of the high bar of the industrial art of Ural artisans – said Oleg Kolesnikov.
